How can I commence a MATLAB code with an input from PLC?

I want to begin Image Acquisition in MATLAB when the objects passes through. So I m going to make use of a plc for that relationship between the optical sensor and matlab. I just want the matlab code to start executing when the object passes with the optical sensor, the output will arrive from a wago plc.
